What is EFT, & Why Should I Try it?

EFTEFT stands for Emotional Freedom Technique. It is also known as Tapping.
It is called Emotional Freedom Technique because it has the power to remove the domination of negative emotions over your life. Essentially it is an Energy healing process, rather than a talking therapy process although there is usually quite a bit of talking going on at the same time.
By rhythmically tapping on Meridian points on our body (see diagram), we release energy blockages in our system which allows energy to flow freely through us and this puts us in a strong state for self healing.
If you suffer from a powerful negative emotion, that emotion is always accompanied by a physical sensation of some sort, whether it is a slightly uncomfortable feeling, right up to severe physical pain.
Those physical feelings are caused by our negative emotions, they are inextricably linked together, so when we tap together and work on removing the physical symptoms, the negative emotion will go at the same time.
EFT is also incredible at creating positive states of mind. It is a technique used by many people to help them get into the state of mind that they need. By using EFT you can be confident, happy, energised, powerful, sensual, alert, responsive, loving, healing…well, you get the picture.
And it WORKS.
The great thing is, you can do this whenever you need it, and wherever you are. It is easy to learn, simple, powerful and very flexible to whatever your needs happen to be.
I have incorporated EFT into my therapy process more and more because it so good, and so successful. It is also great fun!
So why not come along to one of my monthly EFT workshops? It’s just one hour of your time and only £10 to learn the basics of this amazing technique.
Contact The Haven Wellbeing Hub to find out more. You can Book Here for a 1 to 1 session with Phil on a Monday Evening or come along to the Monthly Hour of Power from 6:30pm – 7:30pm on 2nd Tuesday of the Month. Booking Essential.

What is Reiki?

What is Reiki?

Reiki (pronounced Ray-key) is a Japanese word meaning Universal Life Energy, an energy that is all around us.
Reiki is the name given to a system of natural healing which evolved in Japan from the experience and dedication of Dr Mikao Usui (d. 1926). Fired by a burning question, Dr Usui was inspired to develop this healing system from ancient teachings after many years of study, research and meditation. He spent the rest of his life practising and teaching Reiki. Today Reiki continues to be taught by Reiki Masters who have trained in the tradition passed down from Master to student.
There is no belief system attached to Reiki so anyone can receive or learn to give a Reiki treatment, the only prerequisite is the desire to be healed.
A Reiki Treatment
The method of receiving a Reiki treatment from a practitioner is a very simple process. The recipient simply lies on a couch and relaxes. If they are unable to lie down the treatment can be given in a sitting position, the main thing is for the recipient to be as comfortable as possible. There is no need to remove any clothing, as Reiki will pass through anything, even plaster casts. I gently places my hands non-intrusively in a sequence of positions, which cover the whole body. The whole person is treated rather than specific symptoms. A full treatment usually takes 30 to 1 hours with each position held for several minutes.

Which conditions can Reiki help?

It is possible to heal at any level of being: physical, mental, emotional or spiritual. Acute injuries can be helped to heal very quickly but more chronic illness takes longer. In some cases such as terminal illness, there is not enough time for the progress of the disease to be reversed. However, in such cases there is usually great benefit and enhancement of the quality of life giving a sense of peace and acceptance during the time remaining.
Reiki healing can be given anywhere at any time as no special equipment is needed. The practitioner is a channel for the energy to be drawn through by the need or imbalance in the recipient. Neither person has to use any effort of will or concentration during this process.
As running water smooths the jagged edges of a rock until it is small enough to roll away, Reiki flows to the areas of need, soothing pain and supporting the body’s natural ability to heal itself. Reiki restores balance in one’s life.
Reiki supports all forms of treatment both orthodox and complementary.
You can book a Reiki treatment at The Haven Wellbeing Hub on 0118 327 2450 or you could join us on 17th & 24th October to learn how to give Reiki to yourself and your friends & family. Jo Cieloch from Featherock Therapies will be holding a 2 day Reiki Level 1 at The Haven Wellbeing Hub on Saturday 17th Oct and Saturday 24th Oct from 11am – 5pm. Please contact The Haven for more information or Jo directly.

Does Mindfulness make you healthier?

Does Mindfulness make you healthier?

Mindfulness has come into the limelight with Olympians like America’s Deena Kaster mentioning the importance of it to keep their focus, business gurus such as the late Steve Jobs proclaiming the importance for creativity and movements such as Action for Happiness in the UK showcasing how mindfulness can help you to feel happier.
Taking action mindfully
How many times have you gone in the shower and just focused on the act of washing and the feeling of the water on your skin? Stop next time and ask yourself are you mentally preparing your to do list, shopping, planning your weekend or are you just being in the moment. Mindfulness is the awareness of just that moment. Many people find they are more mindful when they walk, run or do an activity such as fishing, sewing or yoga.
But what actually is Mindfulness and does it differ to meditation?
Mindfulness is a state of mind achieved by focusing on the present moment while calmly acknowledging and accepting feelings, thoughts and sensations.
Meditation has a similar definition of focusing your mind for a period of time in silence or with the aid of chanting. Both can be used to reduce stress and to create focus for work and learning.
The key difference between the two is that Mindfulness is experienced in both quiet meditation and by making conscious – or mindful – changes to the actions that we take in our day to day lives. Living in the moment, becoming fully aware of the moment you are experiencing – and switching off the busy mind from the day to day.
How can this help you?
This ability to just be in the moment – gives your brain and body important breathing space – even just ten minutes a day can make a difference to your wellbeing and productivity. You may think you are taking a breathing space when you stop for a coffee or stop for lunch but are you still checking your emails, working at your desk, checking your phone for the latest social media update – physically or mentally?
Our busy lives result in an almost constant stream of internal chatter thought about what are we going to do next or what are we going to become or how well or badly we just did. This chatter means we’re often not that aware of what is around us, and what happening in the here and now. We are likely to be missing out on loads of the good stuff – and shutting out the bad stuff we need to be aware of to evolve and progress.
When we are more fully aware of the moment – we become conscious of all that we see, hear, touch and taste alongside what is happening inside us – our thoughts and feelings –which makes things shift. We can become more relaxed, more creative, sleep better and learn easier. Mindfulness can also help us to improve relationships with others and feel happier.
Anyone can benefit and it need take only a few minutes day. Be patient with yourself as it is often hard at first. When you keep at it you’ll feel the benefits in many areas of your life.
At the Haven Wellbeing Hub you can discover more about Mindfulness and Meditation through our Monday meditation evening group – starting 21st September, a day of mindfulness and meditation on 26th September and a new Saturday morning meditation drop in session, here in Wokingham once a month – the first Saturday of the month. Contact us to find out more or to book your place.

What is EMMETT Technique?

emmett technique

Emmett technique

What is Emmett?

The EMMETT Technique is a unique form of body therapy.
It involves the application of light finger pressure at specific points, referred to as “Emmett points”.
The points are not the same as traditional trigger points or acupressure points or any other points described in any other therapy.
The Tamil pressure required to stimulate the EMMETT points does not need to be firm or painful. “No pain no gain” has no place in EMMETT Technique philosophy.
The EMMETT Therapist is skilled in the art of applying:

  • The right amount of pressure
  • In the right direction
  • For the right amount of time

It is this combination of elements, unique to each individual, which creates the desired physical change.
Although often combined with other techniques, the EMMETT Technique is an efficient and effective therapy on its own.
What does an EMMETT treatment involve?
Clients can be treated seated, standing or lying down. It can be a stand alone treatment or combined with other techniques. The treatment can be applied directly to the skin or done through clothing. The practitioner will apply light finger pressure at specific points on the body in a sequence.
How does it work?
It is suggested that the EMMETT Technique may interact with the body as described in the science of Critical Point Analysis which identifies that…
“In any highly complex system there is a specific, critical point at which the smallest input will result in the greatest change”
For example a light touch on a small cog can halt the largest engine.
The EMMETT Technique Therapist can be compared to a body electrician who has the knowledge to locate these critical points and re-set them with the correct stimulation.
The stimulation is registered by the receiver’s nervous system and their brain responds by sending new instructions back to affect the physical state of the localized area. It affects muscle memory.
The result is often instantaneous physical change.
Special language skills are incorporated to reinforce and anchor the positive physical changes greatly enhancing the outcome.
How can it help me?
This therapy can help with many medical conditions. For example (and this list is not complete!)
Neck, back, shoulder, hip and knee pain
Foot pain and ankle restrictions
Lymphatic and sinus congestion – hayfever
Bladder, abdominal cramps
Fluid retention
Jaw/facial tension
And so much more
